The Government Information Services Limited (GISL) is the state’s primary media and information company.
At GISL, we work with other state run organisations to actively communicate their ongoing business to the nation and abroad.
As we know, a conversation takes two. So more than communicating ongoing projects and events we also identify what the needs and wants of people are and seek to meet them.
Our major interests include ownership of the popular TV4 network which is home to the NEWS4 Team among many programmes.
GISL believes in the work of connecting and unifying people. We take our mandate to effectively communicate and inspire seriously and it saturates every step of the work we do.
Government Information Services Limited (GISL) was established in 2006 as a state owned limited liability company with Board of Directors; in recognition of the need to ensure improved access to information on the policies and services of the Government.
This institutional arrangement allowed for greater flexibility in operating and entity whose mandate is to supply government information in a real time information environment. (GISL) is the successor company to a government unit called the Government Information Services Division (GISD)
The role of GISL was to be the principal agent for the management and dissemination of government information, provide marketing and communications consultancy services and implement and facilitate media production and broadcasting (of local content). In light of this the main function of GISL is to provide efficient, relevant and trusted communications services to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and its various publics.
GISL was incorporated on July 21st 2006 as a State owned limited liability Company that reported to the Minister responsible for Public Information. The company became fully operational on August 01, 2007 upon the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). GISL’s mandate at that time was to focus on the areas of public education, distance learning, government information and quality local programming.
